The GDF medic in Quake Wars is a lot different from the medics in Wolfenstein. Whereas in the original ET, medics ruled the game, GDF medics here are more of a support unit. Gone are the days when you can go Rambo on a crowd of people. As a GDF medic, you have to play smart and pick your spots to fight because you're not as powerful as you use to be. Let's go over the basics of what you need to know to survive on the battlefield as a GDF medic.
Assault rifle vs Lacerator
The biggest difference between a medic and a Strogg technician is the machine gun. Assault rifles have a faster rate of fire than the lacerator. Lacerators however, don't need to be reloaded, just cooled. Also, lacerator ammo is virtually unlimited whereas the assault rifle will run out fast. You can only carry a max of 120 bullets with 40 per magazine.
In close quarters combat, assault
rifles have the advantage because of its faster fire rate. Also,
Stroggs have their vision blurred when hit so it makes it hard for
them to aim at close range. As a medic, you should avoid long range
duels with Strogg because you will run out of ammo fast before you
get a chance to kill him. Aim is really bad in this game. If he's a
technician, you have no chance of killing him. Try to engage him at
close range.
Revive
Your biggest advantage over the Strogg technician is that you can revive instantly. You need to focus on reviving your teammates. A soldier with a rocket launcher will do much more damage than you so try your best to revive him. You must be an active healer and reviver to be useful to your team. As a fighter, you are nowhere near as effective as a rocket launcher or vehicle.
Scope
Use the scope in your assault rifle to hit your enemy at long range. Since aim is so bad in this game, you really need to increase your accuracy as much as possible to have any chance of killing anybody and to not waste ammo. Of course at close range it doesn't make sense to use the scope.
Lean
In Quake Wars, you can lean and shoot at the same time. Obviously, this technique is very useful around corners. Make sure you use it to your advantage. It can extend your life a great deal.
Run with knife
When running, pull out your knife, you'll run much faster. This is useful when evading enemy fire. Use it to your advantage.
Bunny hopping
You don't have to bunny hop as much as your Strogg technician counterpart because the assault rifle is faster, but nevertheless, it is a useful skill to have when fighting. Lateral movement in this game is very slow so jumping will be much more effective in dodging enemy fire. When you're bunny hopping, make sure you aim for the legs first. This way you will hit the torso and head on the way up, and head and torso on the way down.
Destroy spawn hosts
One of the Strogg technician's biggest advantage over you is the fact that he can create spawn hosts. This is a very powerful tool when they're defending as it is like having an extra life. When you see a spawn host, you must destroy it with your defibrillators. This will keep them from attacking and pursuing so much. Spawn hosts can be the key to victory in many situations. You must negate their advantage.
Supply station
Ammo is a scarce commodity in Quake Wars. You will run out of it fast. Make sure you air drop a supply station near your spawn point so that all your teammates will have ammo loaded when they go into battle. I see so many medics don't do this. It should be a crime if a medic doesn't call for a supply station.
Shotgun vs Assault rifle
Again, just like the Strogg technician, a shotgun can be a great weapon at close range. However, you should be wary of teamkills with a shotgun. If your aim is hopeless, go with a shotgun. Otherwise, stick with the assault rifle. It's much more versatile.
Conclusion
The GDF medic is a very versatile fighter, although not as powerful as his Wolfenstein cousin. Nevertheless, many skilled players will still choose medics because of his ability to heal. I hope this guide is helpful to you. Stay tuned for more strategies for other classes.
