Taking down a medic

Medics are the proverbial 800-lb gorilla of Wolfenstein. Not only are they stronger and faster than all the other classes, but they can also regenerate their health. All of which add up to a supremely efficient killing machine. How can you take down such an awesome powerhouse if you’re not a medic? Well, it won’t be easy and success isn't always guaranteed, but it’s do-able. And if you can manage to slay the mighty medic, then you will be rewarded with one of the most satisfying experiences in the game.

Noobs

For a novice player especially, dealing with a medic is probably the most frustrating thing about the game. Most medics tend to be very good gunners, so they will make quick work of noobs. It can take months of practice before a new player can be truly competitive against a well trained medic. Does that mean that noobs have to be bullied by medics until they get better? Not exactly.

The easiest way for a new player to beat a medic is to use grenades. It’s faster to get good using a grenade than it is to get good with a gun. If you’re close to a medic, simply pull the trigger on your grenade, hold it, and run circles around him. Hopefully, the grenade will explode before he kills you. The cool thing about suicide grenades is that you get credited for the kill but not the death, so it's like you never died at all! Even if you die before it blows up, there’s still a good chance the grenade will take the medic down.

If you’re far away from a medic, run from him. Medics are almost impossible to kill from long range. As you run, leave a trail of grenades. This will discourage him from pursuing, and if he does, hopefully, he’ll be blown to pieces.

Of course, grenades aren’t the only weapons against medics. Each class has unique abilities that can cut a medic down to size. Let’s discuss some of ‘em:

Soldiers

Soldiers are designed to be medic killers. Heavy weapons, especially the panzer, are very easy to use and provide instant kills. If you happen to kill a medic with a panzer though, he’ll probably whine about how noobish you. You see, medics hate panzers. You can reply to the whiner, “try being a badass as a covert ops.” Medics are unfairly powerful and panzers are sometimes the only way to kill them. No shame in panzering a medic.

The only problem with panzers is that it will stunt your development as a player. You’ll never improve unless you play as one of the other classes. Soldiers have it too easy. They don’t need to aim or practice any defense. You can pick up a lot of bad habits as a soldier. I recommend playing as a soldier sparingly, never all the time.

Field Ops

Field ops operate best from long range. As a field ops, you can call an air strike or artillery in high traffic areas and you’ll rack up tons of kills in no time. If a medic gets close, call an air strike. Once he sees the smoke, he’ll likely run away. Medics care a lot about kill/death ratio. Other than that, field ops are the easiest class to play. Just set it and forget it!

Covert Ops

Covert ops on the surface are the weakest class against medics. Their sniping capabilities are almost useless against medics. It takes at least 2 hits from a K43 or garand to bring a medic down. The time lag between the first and second bullet is around 2-3 seconds. During which time, the medic can run away or regenerate, making sniping a very ineffective way of killing a medic.

However, a covert ops at close range can be extremely deadly. The FG42 has a very fast rate of fire. Its one weakness is that it’s not very accurate so it’s best used at close ranges only. If you encounter a medic in close quarters, aim for his head. You’ll take him down almost instantly--at least a lot faster than he can take you down! Combined with careful plants of the satchel charge, the covert ops is an absolute terror in closed areas. Learn how to use the covert ops right and medics will run from you at close quarters!

Engineers

Engineers have a diverse repertoire to battle medics with and are often underestimated for their fighting abilities. Land mines are one of the most effective tools against a medic. Medics tend to camp in certain areas to collect their kills. By planting mines in these high traffic areas, you’ll frustrate them and keep them from going on those outrageous killing sprees.

The rifle grenade is probably the most effective weapon against a medic outside of the panzer. Terrific at long range and even deadlier at close range, medics don't stand a chance against these bad boys. Always have a grenade loaded in your rifle and make sure that when you aim, you aim at his feet. You want the grenade to explode at his feet, causing splash damage. If you aim for his head, you'll miss him entirely if he manages to dodge it.

Fighting Back

There comes a time though when you get tired of all the gimmicks and you just want to give medics a dose of their own medicine. There's nothing more satisfying than beating a medic in a duel with a thompson or MP40. The key to victory against a medic in a duel is not fear him. You must take the fight to him. If you see a medic, take the first shot. If you can get a few early hits on him, you'll have the HP advantage. Rush towards him. Use the charge strafing method. Yeah, it's risky but you'll never kill a medic in a sidestepping duel. They have a lot more HP than you. In sidestepping duels, the guy with more HP usually wins. Plus, if you're far away, he can run from you and regenerate. By charge strafing, you can catch him off guard and hopefully make a quick kill. It's a gamble, yes, but medics are too strong to play it safe. This method works for most medics out there. Only the most elite ones will be able to defend it.

Pat yourself on the back

Killing a medic, especially a good one, is probably the most satisfying feeling in the game. Yes, it's tough, but well worth the trouble. They are so strong that any victory against them, however few, is a great one. Even if you don't kill one and constantly get pwn'd, don't feel bad. That's suppose to happen. But if you train hard enough, you can consistently make kills on medics. You may not pwn him but you'll definitely have his respect. And that is a victory in of itself.
